About Us

Galloway UMC has  been a beacon of God's love in the Falls Church community since 1867. Founded by ex-slaves who longed for a place in which they could freely worship, the church's mission has been to nurture a culture of servant leadership as The Word and God's love is shared with all.

Galloway United Methodist Church and Cemetery is located at 306 East Annandale Road in Falls Church, Virginia. It’s location atop a hill near the corner of Hillwood Avenue and Annandale Road places it on the Falls Church City/Fairfax County boundary lines. Galloway shares a long, rich history with the surrounding community beginning with its establishment as the first African American church and school for ex-slaves and their families in “the village of Falls Church”.  Church founders, Harriet and George Brice, worked with a small group of community members to make the dream of having a church in which to worship a reality for the newly emancipated members of the African American community.  Well over a hundred forty years later, Galloway United Methodist Church continues to stand as a strong spiritual presence serving the Falls Church community as not only a place of worship but as a resource committed to spreading the Word and providing outreach services to anyone in need.  Through the years the community has become highly diverse; a melting pot for many of the world's cultures.  Galloway stands to serve all without regard to creed or color.

In March of 2012 Galloway UM Church and  Cemetery became part of the Virginia Civil War Trails program in recognition of it's rich history. The Galloway tradition is firmly anchored in the following scripture – “Here we are, Lord. Send us.”
